The Chamber of Minerals and Energy has warned people looking for work in the mining industry to be wary of a scam job-finding website.
CME Chief Executive, Mr Reg Howard-Smith said the scam site (www.miningjobswa.org) was particularly cruel given the tough times being faced in the mining industry which were expected to continue into the next year.
"This is a heartless scam that is preying on people who are facing tough times with uncertainty in some projects and the spectre of a new mining tax which will kill off jobs,” Mr Howard-Smith said.
“Hopefully more people become aware of this scam site and avoid it at all costs.
“I commend the Department of Commerce for its work in identifying this website but hope that it can be shut down soon so that no more people fall victim to the scam.”
The fake website is mimicking a legitimate employment website www.miningjobswa.net.au and is using an ABN stolen from an Australian company with a similar name.
