The 2017 Surface Mine Emergency Response Competition is proudly hosted by The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia (CME), the state’s peak resources representative body.
CME Chief Executive Reg Howard-Smith said the competition provides an ideal training environment for teams to compare and test their skills.
“The competition is designed to test teams with simulated emergency situations reflecting real life hazards within the resource industry,” said Mr Howard-Smith.
Held over 5 - 7 May, seven teams will compete in nine challenging events including, confined space rescue, fire-fighting, vehicle extrication, rope rescue, hazardous chemicals, first aid, team skills, an incident management scenario and a theory assessment.
The participating teams are:
- BHP Billiton Nickel West, Northern Operations
- Evolution Mining
- Gold Fields, St. Ives
- Gold Fields Combined Team (Agnew Gold, Granny Smith & St. Ives)
- Northern Star Resources, Kalgoorlie Operations
- St Barbara, Leonora Operations
Each team hopes to be the winner of an event and ultimately the ‘Best Team Overall’, challenged by the 2016 winner, Norton Gold Fields.
CME would like to acknowledge the use of the Gold Fields, St. Ives operations and the significant event contribution from local businesses connected to the resources industry.
